TSI Improved its Position in the Webometrics Ranking of World Universities
From the moment of publication of the previous ranking in February 2015, the Transport and Telecommunication Institute (TSI) has improved its position among Latvian higher education institutions by 3 points. In Latvia, TSI has solidly consolidated itself in Top 10 leaders and is now ranked 5th in the list (earlier TSI was ranked 8th).
The Webometrics Ranking of World Universities was started in 2004 and is considered to be one of the most prestigious web rankings in the world of higher education institutions.
The ranking is based on the analysis of a university’s web presence in the global information space and makes it possible to implicitly evaluate its educational and scientific research achievements.
The methodology of ranking is based on four criteria each of which evaluates a university’s success on grounds of its position in the Internet, and has a specific weight coefficient.
Web presence – considers the total number of web pages placed on a university’s main domain and indexed by Google (weight – 10%).
Web visibility – analyses the number of back links to a university’s domain and the quality of such sources (weight – 50%).
Web openness – takes into consideration the work of a university in relation to formation of its own archives of scientific publications in the PDF format which are indexed by Google (weight – 10%).
Excellence – evaluates the number of scientific publications of a university included in 10% of the most cited works of the respective research direction over the last 5 years (weight – 30%).
We hope for further success in the future!
