TSI and the Ministry of Education and Science signed the Agreement on Good Practice in the attraction of international students
On November 17, the Minister of Education and Science Kārlis Šadurskis and the Acting rector of Transport and Telecommunication Institute (TSI) Juris Kanels signed the Agreement on Good Practice in the attraction of international students and provision of studies with the higher education institutions. After signing the Agreement TSI undertake to make quality of education it key criterion in the work with international students.
The quality of study programmes and the learning experience form the basis of reputation of Latvia's higher education institutions and higher education as well as of the higher education export.
The Agreement provides for the measures ensuring compliance with the high good practice standards in the attraction of international students and the study process.
Higher education institutions ensuring this standard will be given the possibility to participate in the international events and foreign visits organised at the nationwide level.
Alongside an increase in the number of international students in Latvia, it is important to facilitate the development of the image of Latvian higher education in the long-term by virtue of qualitative international student attraction process and qualitative education.
The draft agreement was developed by the Ministry in cooperation with the business partners involved in higher education and higher education export and other ministries ensuring that all the parties involved act consistently.
In Latvia, international students make up 10% of the total number of students.
Over the last three years, the number of international students has grown by 82%, i.e. from 4,457 students in the academic year 2014/2015 to 8,137 students in the academic year 2016/2017.
