Information about competitions

Attention students, researchers and lecturers!

The European project TRA VISIONS 2018 invites young and senior researchers from all over Europe to enter their ideas of all kind concerning these and other questions to the competition. 

The deadline for a first short abstract for students is 30th June 2017. 

Following this, participants are requested to develop and submit their full idea by 30th October 2017 where they need to provide a report, a short presentation and a project poster accompanied by an optional short video.

The submission phase will be followed by an Evaluation of Ideas period during which a judging panel comprising experts from universities, research institutes and industry will determine which are the top three ideas per transport mode (road, rail, waterborne and cross-modality).

The final winner of the competition will be awarded during a prestigious award ceremony at the Transport Research Arena (TRA) Conference 2018 in Vienna on 16-19th April 2018.

The concepts must be submitted under one of the conference topics, which cover the general areas of:

1. Environment and Energy Efficiency

2. Vehicles & Vessels – Design, Development and Production

3. Advanced Propulsion Systems

4. Smart Urban Mobility & Logistics

5. People Mobility – Systems and Services

6. Freight Transport and Logistics

7. Transport Infrastructure

8. Connected and Automated Transport

9. Digital Technologies for Transport

10. Safe, Secure and Resilient Transport Systems

11. Human Dimension in Transport

12. Socio-Economics, Innovation and Policy

TRA VISIONS takes place every two years and awards both a prize for innovative concepts for transport solutions for students and for senior researchers in European funded projects throughout Europe.

The award ceremony takes place during the TRA conference, which is held every two years and aims at getting science, research and industry closer together and pointing out challenges and opportunities they can efficiently face together in order to create an efficient and sustainable mobility of people and goods.

The Faculty of Computer Science and Telecommunication of Transport and Telecommunication Institute (TSI) together with X INFOTECH Ltd announce a student research paper competition.

Conditions of the Competition

To participate in the Competition, it is necessary to prepare and submit research papers on the themes proposed by the company X INFOTECH (please see below).

Research papers may be submitted in Latvian, Russian or English. 

One theme may be elucidated by several research papers (individually or in groups).

To participate in the Competition, it is necessary to submit a written application to Michael Savrasov, Acting Dean of Computer science and telecommunications faculty (1 Lomonosova Street), or in the electronic form (savrasovs.m@tsi.lv). In the application, the chosen theme of the research paper and the names of research advisers, if any, should be specified.

1st place – study grant in the amount of EUR 1,500

2nd place – study grant in the amount of EUR 1,000

3rd place – study grant in the amount of EUR 700

The winners and participants of the Competition will be awarded on 15 December 2017.

Research papers participating in the Competition must be submitted in the electronic format by emailing to savrasovs.m@tsi.lv until 14 November 2017, with a note X INFOTECH Student Research Paper Competition.

The following information should be additionally specified: information about the author (first name, surname, study programme, year of study, contact telephone number, and email address) and information about the research adviser (first name, surname, position, contact telephone number and email address).

The winner's research adviser from among academic personnel of TSI will receive a reward in the amount of EUR 500.
