Expert meeting: How can you bring INDUSTRY 4.0 technologies to logistics networks
Prof. Michael Schenk, Director of Fraunhofer Institute for Factory Operation and Automation IFF in Magdeburg (The Fraunhofer IFF), Germany will conduct a expert meeting at Transport and Telecommunication Institute (TSI).
Venue and time: 13 October 2016, 13:00, Room 130.
The theme of the meeting: How can you bring INDUSTRY 4.0 technologies to logistics networks.
In his workshop “How can You bring INDUSTRY 4.0 technologies to logistics networks” Professor Schenk will talk about the concept of Industry 4.0, which the German government in 2011 proclaimed as a key component of the country's development strategy in the field of high technologies. In frame of the development concept Industry 4.0 in the field of logistics it should be expected the appearance of a set of objects, which includes an expanded notion of "Smart". On these objects will be installed electronic components, whereby the objects will “know” its purpose in the logistics process, monitor their current status and maintain communication with other "smart" objects, as well as with the relevant control systems. “Smart” in that sense will be different kinds of products, cargo, goods and cargo carriers. Also people acting as passengers will be provided with appropriate devices. Of course, that the means of production in logistics systems (warehouse and handling equipment, technical facilities of traditional modes of transport) will be equipped with “Smart” modules, whereby they will interact both with client logistics facilities (freight, passengers, etc.) and control systems.
The workshop will provide examples of projects that have been implemented in recent years, in the Fraunhofer IFF and which solutions have been applied focused on the implementation of concept of Industry 4.0.
Language of the meeting: German
After the meeting, participants will have Business lunch with professor.
Professor Michael Schenk since 1994 is a Director of Fraunhofer Institute for Factory Operation and Automation IFF in Magdeburg (The Fraunhofer IFF), Germany.
The Fraunhofer IFF is one of the institutes that bring together The Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft. The Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft is the leading organization for applied research in Europe. Its research activities are conducted by 67 institutes and research units at locations throughout Germany. The Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft employs a staff of 24,000, who work with an annual research budget totalling more than 2.1 billion Euros.
Currently the Fraunhofer IFF engages 180 employees. Its researchers are predominately degree-holding engineers and industrial engineers. In addition, degree-holding computer scientists, mathematicians, physicists and business people also work in interdisciplinary research groups and administrative services. The Fraunhofer IFF is developing of innovative solutions in its fields of research: “Digital Engineering and Industry 4.0”, “Convergent Supply Infrastructures”, “Smart Work Systems” and “Resource Efficient Production and Logistics”.
Prof. Schenk is the Chair of Logistics Systems, School of Mechanical Engineering, Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg. Prof. Schenk is also honourable doctor of several European universities. Most famous book was the “Factory Planning Manual: Situation-Driven Production Facility Planning” (2009), which he wrote in collaboration with Prof. Wirth. Prof. Schenk has experience in managing more than 100 projects that have been carried out by orders of industrial and logistics enterprises.
