"How well do you know Riga?" - Year 2009

On Sunday 10 May 2009 our institute promotes a rebirth of an old tradition. Our student self-government has organized a contest “How well do you know Riga?”.

The historical roots of the contest are in the far 1972. At that time the event named like this was conducted for the first time. Its organizer was Andris Atstinsh. This year he became a honorary guest of the contest and at the end of the action he made a speech. At that far time the working collectives, schoolchildren, students were competing in this contest. In today’s “race” only students took part.

The essence of this contest is the following: a team of 6 persons is given a pack of 24 photos. On photos the architectural elements of Riga of a certain theme (for example – «Figures of Riga») have been depicted. Teams has had limited amount of time when it is necessary to find the largest number of the control points depicted on photos. On each point there stands a judge who fixes time of a team’s arrival. The winner is a team that collects the greater number of points, plus – for the best time. This time the BSA team won having collected the largest number of points. The second were ISMA, the third – STA. Of seven teams participating in a marathon all were able to find more than a half of points.

The action has raised a great interest of participants, and, the majority of them has already decided to participate in the contest next year.
